A labiaplasty can lead to more quality of life

Two main indications can be determined for a labiaplasty: First, it is possible that the affected women feel aesthetically and therefore also psychologically impaired by too large or asymmetrically shaped labia, which leads to discomfort and inhibitions, for example during sex, on the beach, when swimming or in similar situations. Second, too large labia can also lead to functional limitations, for example when doing sports, riding a bicycle or wearing tight clothing, which can lead to mechanical irritation. Both psychological discomfort and functional limitations are important reasons to consider a about labiaplasty.

What is the goal of a labiaplasty?

Primarily, a labiaplasty is performed to remove functional or psychological limitations caused by too large or irregularly shaped labia. However, this does not simply involve the removal of vaginal tissue. Rather, the secondary treatment goal is to reshape the (usually inner) labia by means of tissue reduction, so that an aesthetic and at the same time functional appearance of the female genitals is achieved. In the case of a labia reduction, it is important to ensure that the clitoris is sufficiently covered in order to avoid hypersensitivity.

In most cases, the reduction of the labia minora is performed within the scope of a labiaplasty. However, depending on the patient, this procedure may also be used to treat the labia majora of the vagina and an augmentation is performed. Such an augmentation of the labia can be done, for example, by using a filler such as hyaluronic acid or endogenous fatty tissue obtained by previous liposuction.

Labia reduction surgery - wrongly a taboo subject

Depending on the respective culture, the subject of labiaplasty is strongly tabooed and women are very reluctant or do not talk at all about possible complaints. There is no reason for this if the affected women consult an experienced and discreet physician. With a low-risk, outpatient treatment help is possible which is accompanied by a considerable increase in quality of life – whether in love life, sports or other situations in which affected women previously have felt restricted or inhibited.
